Hushpak and WesTrac delivering sound results for The Bloomfield Group

Cat 793F mining truck
Background

The Bloomfield Group is an Australian mining and engineering organisation which has been part of the Hunter community for more than 80 years and employs hundreds of local people.

Bloomfield operates two open-cut coal mine sites in the Hunter Valley which produce around two and a half million tonnes of saleable coal annually. All the haulage and ancillary machinery fleet operating at these sites are WesTrac Cat® products.

Over the past two years, WesTrac has delivered 19 Cat® 793F Large Mining Trucks to the two Bloomfield mine sites. The engine, transmission, fan, hydraulic pumps, and various other components in these trucks can often compound to make them quite noisy to operate.

Objective

Reduce the noise of the 793F trucks to levels that aligned to Bloomfields’ requirements at their Bloomfield and Rix’s Creek mines. Both of these sites are located in close proximity to the communities of Maitland and Singleton respectively.

Solution

WesTrac’s equipment specialists and engineers worked with Hushpak and Bloomfield to develop a customised solution for the 793F truck that took airflow, centre of gravity, visibility and access for maintenance into consideration.

Results

The solution achieved the noise attenuation goal on time, within budget and included several requested customisations.
